Step 5 – Reminders About Collecting
- Collect approximately diameter of pencil thickness of hair (collect greater thickness if hair is less than 1 ½ inch long)
- It is better to have too much hair for the sample than too little!
- Remember that shorter hair (less than 1 ½ inch) requires a more strands of hair to have adequate “bulk” for the sample
Step 6 – Package the Hair Sample
- Put Collection Foil into Hair Specimen Pouch with the donor observing
- Seal Pouch with the small seal from the Chain of Custody Form
- Don’t forget fill the information on to the hair collection envelope
- Have the donor initial and date the seal
