Additional Information

Gabapentin (GAB), sold under the brand name Neurontin, is a medication used to treat epilepsy, neuropathic pain, hot flashes, and restless legs syndrome. In epilepsy, it may be used for those with partial seizures. It is recommended as one of first line medications for the treatment of neuropathic pain in diabetic neuropathy, postherpetic neuralgia, and central neuropathic pain. It is also used to relieve nerve pain following shingles (a painful rash due to herpes zoster infection) in adults. The most common side effects of gabapentin include dizziness, fatigue, drowsiness, ataxia, peripheral edema (swelling of extremities), nystagmus, and tremor. Serious side effects may include an increased risk of suicide, aggressive behavior, and drug reaction with eosinophilia and systemic symptoms..

Results

Negative: Two distinct colored lines appear.  One colored line should be in the control line region (C), and another colored line should be in the test line region (T).

Positive: One colored line appears in the control region (C).  No line appears in the test line region (T).

INVALID: Control line (C) fails to appear.  Insufficient specimen volume or incorrect procedural techniques are the most likely reasons for the control line failure.  Review the procedure and repeat the test using a new test.

Note: This test is for forensic use only, not for use by medical offices.
The designation of “for forensic use only” means that the substance abuse test is not FDA 510k Cleared.  These types of tests are successfully used by law enforcement, correction and probation departments.  This product is not intended to be used in the diagnosis, cure, mitigation, treatment, or prevention of disease or illness.
